You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, "Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the "Description" which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.
And the very last category – "Keywords" are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Good luck!

Build your inbound links.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank.

Search Engine Optimisation prices vary from company to company and what industry your website is in.
We use a company called http://www.smiths-internet-services.com.au they have worked really well with us and helped to obtain alot of results in the search engines.
Pricing starts at approximately $120 per month and everything is catered for. Basically you receive 24/7 email support, changes to the website comprehensive reporting and more.
If you are interested in obtaining results drop them an email with information on what products and services you would like to be found for.
My website was #1 for the keyword "home business" for about 3 or so years — until Google changed its algorithm and now gives emphasis on the keywords in the domain name. Search for "home business" and the top are those sites with those keywords (my site now fluctuates between #5-10)
But in the new pages we create, we have changed our naming conventions and now our URLs contain the tite of the article such as business-tips-entrepreneurs.htm
Title is critical. We take a long time tweaking the meta title of the page. It has to have the right keywords
Content is key, however. We make sure we write good quality articles. It is easy to get links and other people will link to you without you begging for them to do it if your content is good
We used to let others use our articles, but with duplicate content penalty, we don’t do article submissions anymore.
The key is to make sure that every single page can stand to compete with other pages. So you can get traffic to your homepage, and all your inside content pages. We don’t rely on one keyword — e.g. "home business" — as we have lots and lots of keywords where we are #1.
Make sure your site ranks in LOTS and LOTS of keywords, even longtail ones, and don’t rely on a handful of keywords. 100 visitors from 100 keywords is much better than 1000 visitors from 2 keywords
How can i get my website to come up on the first pages of search engines for free and without pay per click (which is a total waste of money)?
A few preliminary remarks:
1) WebSITES don’t rank in the search engines, rather webPAGES do. Most websites have numerous webpages, and each webpage has the potential to show up in the search results of the major search engines (i.e., Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.com).
2) Sites show up in the search engines after someone searches for a particular keyword (a keyword is a short, 2 – 5 word phrases — also known as search terms). This means that what we really want to know is what do we have to do to help a particular webpage rank well in the search engine for a particular keyword phrase.
3) Not all webpages and keywords are equally valuable when it comes to ranking well in the search engine. Some keyword phrases are more popular than other keyword phrases, some less so. Some keyword phrases are more relevant to your product and services, some less so. It is important to clarify your goals for ranking well so that you can gain the maximum benefit from showing up in the search engine results.
With that said, here is an article which summarizes the steps you need to take to rank well in the search engines: http://www.sembasics.com/sem-blog/the-se…
The site contains other articles which explain in-depth how to do each of the steps outlined in the article (those tutorials can be reached here: http://www.sembasics.com/sem-blog/search…
Here is a brief outline of the article:
1) Create a search engine friendly website (proper use of HTML code, good URLs, etc.). If the search engines can’t process your site, you can’t rank well, no matter what else you do — your site will essentially be invisible to them.
2) Good keyword research — find the words and phrases that your customers use to search for your products, organize those keywords according to popularity and competition.
3) Create web pages each of which is focused around 1 – 2 keywords.
4) Get high-quality links from related, high-quality sites which link directly to the appropriate web page. This is perhaps the most important part of ranking well in the search engine, although it’s effectiveness is determined by how well you do the other steps in this process.
5) Track and analyze your optimization results so as to improve the effectiveness of your optimization campaign.

I have a translation website and need to make it in a higher position in search engines so that it gets more visitors and clients. I spent large amounts on Ad Word and submitted it to many free directories, but the number of visitors is still low.
Any help?
there are plenty of ways to drive traffic to your site and PPC is one of the most expensive methods.
SEO would be the least expensive way to promote your site. unlike adwords or other PPC programs, you will not have to keep spending per clicks to generate a lead or impression. make sure your site is properly seo optimized using the onpage optimization factors (meta tags, unique content, keyword density and spacing out the keywords evenly through out the content, etc) and then focus on offpage promotion. link building is the best way to drive traffic to your site. once you have enough backlinks, you will rank high on search engines and traffic will keep coming.
link directory submission is fine but only one small method of getting a few backlinks depending on how many directories you submited to. other link building mehtods wouldbe article submission, press release submission, social bookmarking, web 2.0 and social media pages, blog commenting, etc.
